The Cuypershuis in Roermond showed the solo exhibition from 8 September 2018 to 13 January 2019: “Akaratos” textile works by Marjan Eggels.
The templates of architect / designer Pierre Cuypers served as inspiration and starting point. With contemporary and traditional techniques she searched for the desired form of her associations with these templates. The artworks have been created in the own studio and in collaboration with special studios. This scarf was developed by her in collaboration with the TextielLab, TextielMuseum in Tilburg. In 2019 the scarf was further developed in 4 new color combinations and selected for the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. The scarf is wearable on both sides and is made from a combination of merino wool / mercerized cotton and ecological cotton.
From an early age Marjan Eggels has been fascinated by textiles and has followed Fashion Design at the Academy of Fine Arts (MAFAD) in Maastricht and Fashion, Design and Strategy at ArtEZ in Arnhem. In addition, she develops a fascination for patterns and structures. With her knitted vases, she attracts attention as a textile artist during the presentation ‘Meesterlijk’ at the Dutch Design Week in 2010. The Italian interior architect Rossana Orlandi and the New York clothing and accessories store ‘Anthropologie’ were among her customers and form an important incentive for her career.
